In the very start of the book there is an arguement about wearing the veil or not. There is also a riot against the king. These events show that the nation wants to modernize from there old traditional living styles.
The events that have occurred through out the book so far show that modernization is a goal. The very first event was the argument on whether or not they have to wear the viel or not. Another big event was the overthrow of the Shah. Who was like a king, or dictator of Iran. They demonstrate agianst the old style of living, such as the viel, and other religious traditions. This is a big turn towards modernization of the country, and it's people.
i think that the not whereing the veil was a really good part that shows that they want to modernizize their country. also they tryed to over throw the shah or the king he is a dictator. i think they really want to be modernized.
